International Competitions

Competitions
On every continent in the world of FMO two international competitions are played. In Europe the Champions League and Europa League and in America the Copa Libertadores and America League. The allocation of spots for entry into the competition is done via the 5 year ranking values.
Competition Format
Champions League / Copa Libertadores
Both contests include a qualification phase, with the winners qualifing for the main competition. They join the teams that direclty qualified to make up groups.

After the qualification stage is complete, teams start in the group stage, with the top two teams from each group going through to the round of sixteen. The thrid placed team moves into the third round of the europa league or america league. Teams finishing in last place are eliminated from the competition.

From the round of sixteen onwards, the competition moves into a Knock out mode with home and away legs. The winners move forward into the next round, while the loosers are eliminated.

The final is a one off game, with the winner of the game being crowned the winners of the whole competition.

Europa League/ America League

The loosers are eliminated from the competition while the winners move into the group stages. Within the group, the top three teams qualify for the 3rd round, and all other teams are out. Third place teams from the champions league or copa libertadores join the competition in the third round.

From the third round onwards the competition is in knock out mode with home and away ties. The winner moves into the next round while the loser is eliminated from the competition.

The final is a one off game, with the winner of the game being crowned the winners of the whole competition.
Club Coefficient
The club coefficient of a team represents its assessment of individual achievements in international competitions during the last 5 seasons. The awarding of points is done exactly the same way as the 5 year evaluation rating is done, but in this case only respective teams are evaluated and not all the teams from one country.
Coefficient rankings and club ranking
The coefficient ranking is used to prepare the draw pots during the process of drawing teams into groups or pairs. It is created as follows: each country coefficient for the past five seasons will be deducted from the individual performances of the club in the international club competitions during the same period. The proportion of the country points 20% and the percentage of team points 80%.
Champions League and Copa Libertadores Draw
Qualification
The draw for the matches is drawn in both competitions from two pots that are made up according to the coefficient rankings. Seeded teams are found in the first pot, and the rest are in the second pot. To decide each fixture, teams from the first pot are drawn against teams from the second pot. The draw is made at random, although teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

Group Stage
Groups are drawn from four pots that are made up according to the coeffieicent rankings. A team is drawn from each pot to form one group of four teams. Just like the qualification draw it is done completely at random and teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

Last 16
The draw for the pairings of each match is made from two pots. In the first pot are the group winners, while the runners up of each group is in pot two. A team from each pot is drawn against each other at random. The only exception to this rule is that clubs from the same association cannot be drawn agaisnt each other, and the group winners and runners up from the same group can also not be drawn together.

Quarter Finals Onwards
The draw for the pairings is done at random without any pots or seedings. Clubs from the same association from this point forwards can be drawn against each other.
Europa League and America League Draw
Qualification
Corresponds to the procedure used in the draw made for the champions league qualifiers.

First Round
Corresponds to the procedure used in the drawing of matches for Europa League qualification.

Group Stage
Corresponds to the procedure used in the drawing of the Champions League group stage but with two exceptions: firstly, instead of four pots there are five. Secondly, clubs from the same association can be drawn against each other, should the number of qualified teams from one association exceed the number of groups.

Third Round (Last 32)
Teams that qualify to the third round go into 2 pots. In the first pot are the teams that have qualified from the group stages of the Europa League or America league and teams that finished 3rd in the champions league group stages. The second pot consists of teams that finished in second and third places in the Europa League and America League groups. A team from pot one is drawn against a team from pot two and random to form the game pairings. At this stage, teams from the same association and the group winners and runners up from one group cannot be drawn against each other.

Last sixteen
The draw for the pairings is done at random without any pots or seedings. Clubs from the same association from this point forwards can be drawn against each other.
